About the Artist

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Naomi Louise is a multimedia abstract artist and designer, working primarily with watercolour and gouache which she embellishes with various other mediums.

Naomi believes the beauty that is held within the tiny details of life can only truly be found once we as artists, consumers and humans choose to slow down. Thus, Naomi's artwork aims to highlight the metaphysical harmony that exists amongst humans and nature.

As a self-taught artist, Naomi began her art practice almost unconsciously whilst writing as a therapeutic outlet and 5 years later, her expression has since evolved into a full creative career in Fine Art and Surface Pattern design.

She specialises in abstract art that is inspired by both the natural and metaphysical world. Her works; whether abstract, photo-realistic or something in between, are all inspired by a close observation of nature’s patterns and how her mind processes them.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My process facilitates deep meditation and flow first and foremost as it is the most important part of creation for me. Since I discovered art as a highly therapeutic outlet, I am committed to maintaining that calm and grounding atmosphere and process regardless of the piece I am working on

My abstract work explores instinctual feelings as shapes and colours which mimic nature’s organic patterns and hues. My main focus is to extract even the tiniest details of the subject that the naked human eye may miss.

I prefer working with watercolour and other water based mediums such as gouache to further accentuate the nature play and calming effect. Directly working with water, in its unpredictability creates such interesting visual effects, allowing for both very soft and harsh finishes which is what I strive to capture. I like to create as much contrast as possible so I often combine the beautiful transparency of watercolour with the opaque richness of gouache or acrylic. To further introduce texture, I typically work with heavy, cold-pressed paper or cotton canvas.
